The demand of DRAM market surged under the AI wave

Since the second half of 2025,the global storage industry has significantly stepped into the accelerated upward channel.The market supply continues to be tight,the price rises quarter by quarter,and the overall profitability of the industry continues to increase.In this cycle,in addition to the extreme shortage of high-speed bandwidth memory(HBM)due to the demand of AI computing power,dynamic random access memory(DRAM),as the foundation and core of the storage system,has once again become prominent in its strategic position,becoming the focus area for major original factories to compete for layout and adjustment of production capacity.
 
The strong recovery and structural changes of DRAM market in this round are driven by the deepening and expansion of artificial intelligence applications.On the one hand,the demand for HBM in AI model training is increasing,which leads to its long-term tight production capacity.On the other hand,the more significant trend is that AI applications are rapidly extending from centralized training scenarios to reasoning side and edge devices.This transformation has triggered a new structural demand for large-capacity and cost-effective storage solutions.Inference servers,edge AI devices and new generation AI personal computers not only need high bandwidth,but also are more sensitive to cost,which gives birth to explosive demand for high-performance general-purpose DRAM such as GDDR7,large-capacity DDR5 and LPDDR 5 X.
 
The strength of market demand can be seen from the orders of head cloud service vendors.In order to ensure long-term and stable supply,cloud giants such as Google and Microsoft have thrown out"indefinite orders"to the original storage plants.This unprecedented procurement mode has further aggravated the shortage of production capacity and forced manufacturers such as Samsung,SK Hynix and Micron to re-evaluate their long-term capacity planning and product roadmap.
